The Futorical Society (and the woman who killed the weeds) is a 17-minute film that weaves past, present and future histories of rural Australia together. In making this film, I used photogrammetry and LiDAR scans as well as interviews and observational footage to reimagine the future of archives and museums. The work emerged from a two-week residency at the Warracknabeal Courthouse (Wotjobaluk Country) where I ran two workshops where local residents brought objects to offer to a kind of speculative museum. The film also tells the little-known story of Vera Molnar, a Hungarian refugee and agricultural hero who saved the Mallee from the scourge of skeleton weed. Also featured in the film are paramedic ants and dancing Mallee fowl. The film was shown at the Art Deco Warracknabeal Town Hall in April 2023 as part of the Future Histories showcase.
