Screenings held at The Mercury Cinema, Adelaide. Documentary Film Society supports local and international rare and previously unseen contemporary documentaries. Screenings are free – supported by City of Adelaide.
To accompany its exhibition program, Samstag will present three documentary film programs at the Mercury across the year in partnership with the Documentary Film Society. Each screening will be accompanied by a commissioned essay, and will also include a floor talk in the gallery the following week.

6:30pm Screening: The Mother of All Lies (Dir: Asmae El Moudir, 96 mins) On a handmade set recreating her Casablanca neighbourhood, young Moroccan filmmaker Asmae El Moudir enlists family and friends to help solve the troubling mysteries of her childhood. There, she starts to unravel the layers of deception and intentional forgetting that have shaped her life. The Mother of All Lies won the awards for best director at Un Certain Regard, and the Golden Eye for best documentary at the Cannes Film Festival.

Filmmaker Jude Chehab potently documents the unspoken ties and consequences of loyalty that have bonded her mother, grandmother, and herself to the mysterious organisation. Q won the Albert Maysles award for Best New Documentary Director at Tribeca and the Grand Jury Award for Best First Feature at Sheffield DocFest.
