The Park (2019) explores the final eight months before the closure of the Wantirna Caravan Park on the outskirts of Melbourne.
It’s easy to miss when you’re driving along the highway. But once you enter and drive past the onsite vans and down the small roads through the Wantirna Caravan Park, you start to notice more elaborate houses and established gardens. Everything is in miniature in this low-impact, low-cost community of long-term residents. On this frosty June morning, Pat has her son and daughter-in-law here to dig up some of the plants and trees to take to the new caravan park two hours away. She tells me that her neighbour asked her not to take them so soon because she’ll have to look out the window to see the once-beautiful garden full of holes. She’s one of the fortunate ones having somewhere to go.
